Subject: I cannot accept bigotry
The leadership we need

Pramila Jayapal

As many of you know, I will not be attending the State of the Union because I refuse to normalize a president who uses the highest office of the land to fuel racism and hatred. It's not about mere political differences or opposing perspectives on policy -- I cannot accept bigotry coming from the highest office of the land. Instead, I'm honored to be attending the State of OUR Union alongside Cecile Richards of Planned Parenthood, Rep. Barbara Lee, and other amazing women activists. We'll focus on unifying our country and working together to advance justice, fairness, inclusivity, and opportunity for all.

Contribute $3 by tomorrow's end-of-month fundraising deadline to power my fight for our progressive vision.

Tonight is our time to collaborate on an alternate view of America. Together, we'll water the seeds of our vision for a healthier, happier, and more equitable country. One where we uplift each other, protect our neighbors, and value each and every voice.

In the past year, so many of you have emerged as leaders of the resistance and I've been so proud to witness it. We know that when leadership is lacking, we have to take it into our own hands. Because here's the truth: we have a depravity of leadership in Washington.

Leaders are not selfish. DACA should have never been rescinded. We should not be at a place where we've passed a tax scam that benefits corporations and the top 1% while attempting to gut our health care. Medical professionals should not be given free reign to discriminate.

Leaders lead by example. Twitter should not be used to bully public figures and destabilize our foreign policy. White supremacists should never be referred to as "very fine people". Muslims, Mexicans, Haitians, Africans, and Salvadorans should not have to be subject to disgusting claims about their characters and their countries.

Leaders have integrity. The President should not be trying to fire Special Counsel Robert Mueller for investigating Russian involvement in our democracy. And he should not have endorsed an alleged child molester for U.S. Senate.

Because of this lack of leadership, the GOP can't come up with the solutions that everyday people need. They're doing nothing to make progress on student loan debt relief, universal health care, affordable education, climate change, and a clear path to citizenship for all Dreamers.

Contribute $3 to ensure that my team and I have the resources to hold ineffective leadership accountable and can take back the House in 2018.

We won't accept a vision of the future looks a lot like the past. A past that civil rights, women's rights, and LGBTQ rights activists have worked so hard to change -- many times at the cost of their lives. They were true leaders. Together we're fighting to keep their legacies alive and add on to the progress that they worked so hard to make.
